Britain's shortest-serving prime minister, began the first edition of her YouTube show with a promise to unmask "malicious actors" working to bring down Western democracies. She stated she would uncover how an "global web of progressives operate to subvert democracy and the electorate's mandate."

"Our focus will be on the Maga phenomenon and observe how it can be accomplished in Britain," she said. "We'll be talking to the leading lights of the Make America Great Again campaign."

Prior to the series premiere, there was a notably ardent backer. "This marks the start of a kind of political shift," remarked the controversial US journalist. His Just the News will host the former prime minister's new broadcasts.

Establishing Ties in the Maga Media Ecosystem

UK-based allies, including a advisor linked to Reform UK, played a role in her launch the Truss's program. The setup is adequate, if somewhat rudimentary. The show has attracted ten thousand followers in her debut week and her premiere achieved tens of thousands of views across the same period.

It is a modest start, but in making common cause with John Solomon, the former PM is being entering a well-developed conservative ecosystem generating and disseminating Make America Great Again themes. Its obsessions include accusations of information control by the established press and a desire to dismantle a shadowy government apparatus – which she attributes her downfall to for the abrupt termination of her disastrous time in office.

"Just the News is not famous past the pro-Trump media sphere, but it does have gravitas there, mostly due to Solomon, who provides analysis on Maga platforms like Bannon's 'War Room' podcast and has even interviewed Trump," commented Alex Hinton, who has analyzed the Make America Great Again phenomenon.

A Divisive Associate

Her effort to import Maga media to the UK has drawn her nearer to contentious individuals such as the journalist.

He set up the platform after backlash when allegations surfaced of circulating false stories about the President's actions in Ukraine, as well as disputed reports about the former US ambassador to the region.

These allegations were echoed across the conservative press, with the journalist serving as a regular guest on the widely-watched Fox News show. The former president personally endorsed his stories.

He wrote the allegations regarding Ukraine in a series of columns for the political newspaper The Hill, where he was re-labelled as a columnist following internal criticism about his work. His narratives were key in Trump's demand for the officials in Kyiv to probe Hunter Biden and his father in 2019. This pressure culminated in impeachment charges against Trump. Senators later acquitted the commander-in-chief.

Not long after Solomon left the Hill in autumn 2019, the outlet announced it was performing a review of his reporting relating to Ukrainian matters. It determined the journalist had cited questionable informants and said he "failed to identify key facts about key Ukrainian sources, including the fact that they had been indicted or were under investigation."

Entering the Ecosystem

Solomon's own TV and radio guest spots are a sign of the conservative ecosystem Liz Truss is becoming part of. He talked about his backing of the program on a broadcast he helps run on the conservative cable network, a rightwing cable channel that is home to the Maga influencer Steve Bannon and on which commentator Tucker Carlson also appears. Truss has already interviewed the political operative on a debut installment.

By partnering with Solomon and Just the News, Truss has become a minor player in a much wider network of right-wing publications that routinely share and promote one another's material.

His personal podcast and Real America's Voice show have frequently included personalities such as Mike Benz, a rightwing influencer whose disparagement of USAID was used by the X owner as reasoning behind closing the government body.

A Cross-Border Foray

Even though her awkward delivery and professional woes have been mocked in Britain, some US observers are not discounting her attempts to rebrand as a local version of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"It is necessary to treat people like Truss seriously, despite the fact that you may not want to accept their words at face value," commented a former Biden White House aide, who was employed in the Obama White House.

"Observers witnessed how in 2024 President Trump utilized that alternative press to disseminate his views. Without a doubt that network transmits and affects debate overseas. It seems relatively clear to me that the environment in the UK are similar to what enabled this non-mainstream media network to flourish in the US."

Professor Alan Finlayson, said the digital right-wing media sphere was already making its presence felt in the United Kingdom.

"Digital media is borderless," he said. "There is a certain atmosphere within which ideas travel – on occasion taking an extreme form and occasionally in softer tones – but which is connected."

Professor Hinton said the rise of the internet-based right wing in the UK lately meant the "possibility to have a larger effect is significant."
